Inspiration

Many apologies for my absence. Friends were staying at the house and there was preparation to do before they arrived and much fun to be had once they were here.

I was sick last week and stuck in the house with a book: "Ultramarathon Man" by Dean Karnazes. He is a crazy runner and I am not sure that I even aspire to do what he does running all night, hundreds of miles at a time. However, his story is inspirational and he referenced a wonderful quotation from Theodore Roosevelt:

The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory or defeat.

Not one that I immediately memorized and can whisper under my breath, but I think it says it all.

Spring Has Sprung

Spring is here and for me, and many others that means joyful runs outside, time to plant the tomatoes and allergies.

I have never been a particular allergic person, but something got to me on Long Island this weekend. Now I have taken a couple of days off work to fight viral laryngitis. It is nothing that a couple of days of rest, Sudafed and Ben Jerry's Ice cream can't fix.

The good news is this comes off the back of one of my best runs ever. It was a half marathon in East Meadow, Long Island. My time was quick. I felt strong and I PR'ed.

I suppose everything comes with a price.

Impossible is Nothing

I have become addicted to the Adidas slogan: "Impossible is Nothing."

The idea that the impossible just takes work to achieve. After you put in the work and time you will meet your goal the impossible part will disappear.
That, maybe, "the impossible" is the least of my worries.

So it is my new mantra.

Therefore it is time to dream big, go forth with hope and what part of a plan that you can come up with, but don't hesitate because something seems impossible.

Impossible is nothing.
